You are not alone

I have written a few posts lately on the struggles we face being a T1D.  I want to point out that we are not alone in all of this.

I have recently gotten back in touch with one of my friends I met through this disease.  Her and her family are really struggling managing the lot of challenges this disease throws at us.  She has been in DKA twice.  Due to her diabetes, she is starting to homeschool.  On top of these things, she still watches her siblings and tries to maintain a social life with her friends and family.

This girl is the definition of strong.  She keeps pushing through it, never gives up and always finds a solution.  She always makes our conversations fun, is responsible, and I believe is a role model of how we all should be.  She is kind hearted, brave, funny and an all-around amazing person.  She always looks to find the bright side of things, remains helpful and pushes through the hard things.

We talk about everything from our diabetes (pumps, sensors, blood sugars) to personal things like hobbies, favorite foods and everything in between.  She is always there to help me when I need another diabetic’s perspective on something to the all important girl-to-girl conversations.  Sometimes it is even as simple as “Hey, how are you doing?” whenever we feel we need to talk to someone.

Sometimes this disease makes you feel isolated and alone.  It can feel like no one knows what it feels like when you are struggling to manage through all the ups and downs.  You are not alone.  There are people out there that are going through the same things you are and are here to help or talk. Thank you for reading this rare, sappy writing.

Fare thee well, mortals.
