The Importance of Dosing

I would just like to remind you of the importance of dosing.

A friend of mine was in the hospital for DKA. It was so severe that she was airlifted to another hospital. I am not saying she did not dose as I do not know all the detail, however, it is important to dose and monitor yourself and any symptoms you may have.

Some of the signs for DKA are

  • high ketones
  • dizziness
  • nausea
  • general feeling of being sick

Honestly, I feel like not dosing once or twice is fine if the carbs are under 10.  This is personal and I do not recommend for everyone, but you know what your body can do. Dosing is extremely important unless you want to be in the hospital with high ketones, fighting to stay conscious and in DKA.

The point is to always dose and monitor yourself. Every day is different and our bodies just decide somedays to do something completely different than what was expected. It is important to stay on top of this daily….even though we wish we didn’t have to.

It is also important to note that even if you dose correctly, you can still experience DKA.  There are so many different factors that can impact how our bodies process sugars and insulin and even technology failures can challenge us.  Dosing, however, is an easy (although annoying) thing we can do to try to prevent other complications.
