GUESS. WHAT.
I’m going to a service dog training camp this summer, from July 14th-18th, and most likely getting a service dog!
And some of the perks that come with service animals are lecturing your fellow peers…
SOOOOO of course, when I found out that I’m going to need to write and present a speech for my Language Arts class and somebody asked to allow pets in schools, I of course had to shoot that idea down, and now I’m presenting on why there are barriers between pets and service animals.
So, I conducted an interview with Early Alert Canines – if you’re reading this, thank you again – and I also used many of the Washington State Laws, and many of the ada.gov-type sources.
My speech is on January 28th, and I’m hoping to get my classmates to understand that pets should not be allowed in public settings.
The ‘Call to Action’ part of my speech is both an easy and a difficult task… I’m asking my classmates to not bring their pets with them into public settings claiming that it’s a service animal. I’m asking my classmates to respect a service animal when they see it in public. I’m asking my classmates to understand why the laws are the way they are – to protect lives.
Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying; I would love to bring my two dogs into a restaurant with me, but I understand that it would be a violation to the health and safety of many people, and their service animals. If my presentation goes well, I might post it onto this blog because people need to learn why the service animals and pets are separated.
What are your thoughts on service animals and pets in the same public setting? (There’s a comment section for a reason!)
