So, as a diabetic, sometimes there are misunderstandings. A lot of it comes from the lack of education or knowledge between Type 1 and Type 2. Or some people truly don’t know about diabetes.
For example, you could be buying a cake and someone says, “Oh, what’s that for?” to be kind and start a conversation.
“Oh, just my Diaversarry.” A Diaversarry is the day you were diagnosed with diabetes…there are a few fun terms for this.
They say, “But, you shouldn’t be allowed to have sugar,” or something along those stupid lines, which makes you angry enough to want to yell at them. But you know you can’t do that. Sometimes I just smile and let out a sigh of disbelief of the comments that are said.
So, then you’re either stuck explaining it to them, or holding yourself back from saying anything because you are dealing with every emotion flooding your body. Or, at least, that’s the way it is for me. When I hear them, that is. Most of the time I just try to tune them out at this point.
There’s also when people can say “Oh, but aren’t you supposed to be really fat and overweight if you’re a diabetic?”

THAT’S NOT HOW IT FRIGGIN WORKS!!!!
Diabetes can be caused by the pancreas shutting down and no longer producing insulin, genetic mutation links, and even medicines! Some people are also just insulin resistant. So, people should not assume such crazy thing with diabetes,-or believe the “Diabeetus” meme, in my opinion-period. IT IS ALSO NOT CAUSED BY SUGAR!
ANYWAYS, the point is that there will be some REALLY annoying people who don’t know when to shut up. We will continue to run in to this and continue to be frustrated and try to control the emotions that come with it. We can always try to take the time to educate them or just take a deep breath. But again, know it’s not the first time, it won’t be last, and yes, we can have sugar.
